About Romilly

I wasn't born with a needle in my hand - in fact when my grandmother and mother tried to convince me to stitch it took me 4 years to finish that first stamped sampler! Now, you can't get me to put it down! I love all needlework, and originally founded Golden Circle Designs about 10 years ago in California. Life intervened, and I moved cross-country, got married, and up until now it's just been a dream to get it back up and running.

What is the Golden Circle?

It is the space that links Art and Craft. It is the bond of creativity that encircles artist, craftsman, and viewer and ties them together. It is wearable and carryable art, and art for the wall. It is the craft of living well.

• A fiction writer's art centers in her imagination. Her craft brings the imagination alive through the words on a page.
• The potter's art is in his imaginative designs; his craft creates the pot.
• A painter's art is, like the writer's based in the imagination; the craft of painting creates that vision.
• The needleworker's art is imaginative; the craft of stitching creates beauty.

The ephemeral arts can become more complicated: singing, dancing, acting, but I believe the basis is the same. Within the circle we use pencils, paint, fabric and thread, but the end result is still Imagination at work and play. Through this website I hope to make my view of art accessible to you, as well as the art itself, and the means for you to make your own!
